GENERAL CANNED CORN CROP REPORT 2009:

Highlights:  Midwest has cool weather and was raining heavily last week. Weekly temperatures last week was averaged 5 degrees F below normal around the Midwest.  The highest temperature was below 60 degrees F. On the other hand, Minnesota area was having mostly dry weather. 

Corn:  Last week was wet and below average temperatures in central Corn Belt. Iowa had 4 inches of rainfall on already soggy fields. It caused the fieldwork completion late last week. There was 8% of the 2009 corn crop at or beyond the silking stage.  This was 3% ahead of last year and was 8% behind the 5 years average. All of the states except for North Carolina were at or behind the average pace. Tennessee had 39% of the can crop began silking. Overall 71% of the corn crop was rated in good to excellent.  This was slightly down from a week ago, but it was 9% better than last year.

Seneca Crop Report 2009:

Buhl, ID:  Planting for both Supersweet Corn and Regular Corn was done.  Regular Corn Crops looked good.  Supersweet Corn emergence well and looking good. Temperature was above normal and having thunderstorms last week. There was hailing on 7/5/2009. The predicted forecast this week is temperature will be near normal. Average temperature usually around 52 degrees F at the lowest and 84 degrees F at the highest.

Cambria & Oakfield, WI:  Planting for Supersweet Corn was almost completed. Regular Corn was more than half way done. The temperature was normal and above normal last week. The predicted forecast this week is temperature will be normal.

Blue Earth & Rochester, MN:  Planting for both Supersweet Corn and Regular Corn was done early last week.  The first corn tasseled will be silking this week.  Estimated harvest date will be the end of July.  The first corn borer treatments will be applied this week.
